Opportunities for School Students

Yarrawonga Health is committed to providing entry-level pathways to support local young people who wish to pursue a career in the health workforce. Placement programs are available to help students develop and consolidate skills and experiences across various clinical and non-clinical departments. 

YH supports students to undertake work experience and Vocational Education in Schools (VETiS) health programs.

YH has implemented the Victorian Child Safe Standards and all policies and procedures apply to students on work experience placement

 

Work Experience

If you are a student aged over 15 years and enrolled in Years 10 to 12, you are eligible to participate in the work experience program at Yarrawonga Health.

Our work experience program allows opportunities for students to experience a range of clinical, corporate and support roles within a health service.

Requests for work experience are to be submitted by the relevant secondary school work experience coordinator at least one month prior to the requested placement. 

All work experience applicants will be required to attend a brief interview and complete some pre placement learning.  

Opportunity for work experience is scheduled for the following periods:

  • Term One: Two weeks prior to first term holidays, and two weeks of school holidays- 4 weeks in total
  • Term Three: Two weeks prior to first term holidays, and two weeks of school holidays- 4 weeks in total

Vocational Education in Schools

If you are a student in Year 10, 11 or 12, then you can participate in the Vocational Education Training in Schools (VETIS) health program. This program allows you to study a Certificate III in Health Services Assistance and a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance over a two-year period. You are also expected to work one day at Yarrawonga Health every two weeks, alternating with your theory classes at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE.
