More choice for local women as partnership in Maternity Services unveiled

Yarrawonga Health and Northeast Health Wangaratta have joined forces in a unique and transformative partnership to improve the health and wellbeing of local women by enhancing maternity services for women in Yarrawonga and surrounds.

The yearlong collaboration comprised a wide variety of ‘experts’ including clinicians, patients, service providers, health care providers and medical teams to co-design a pathway focussed on local access and continuous care and connection for women and their families.

The project, was led by Albury Wodonga Health’s Jan Lang, and included focus on collaborative relationships between health professionals to create a holistic service for women in the community that is uniquely tailored to the individual and encompasses care before, during and after birth. This includes, antenatal care, delivery and post-natal care from multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, GP obstetricians, midwives and allied health.

The innovative partnership, provides a seamless pathway for women to be able to choose to access local contemporary care close to home, supported by a unique and personal birthing experience close by at Northeast Health Wangaratta.  With the additional option to return to their local community via Yarrawonga Health for post-natal follow up and support.

The partnership provided the opportunity to explore new models of contemporary and effective care, with clearly identified consultation and referral pathways supported by both Yarrawonga Health and Northeast Health Wangaratta teams.
