COVID-19 Community Update

Monday, 10 January 2022

Yarrawonga Health (YH) wishes to remind the community that there is a surge of activity in COVID-19 transmission in our community. Currently there are approximately 300 cases of COVID-19 in our cross border community. The Yarrawonga Health COVID-19 Testing clinic conducted 157 tests on Monday 10th January 2021. We expect numbers to change as people move around more freely and as positive cases are recorded by Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) and as people recover from COVID-19.

Yarrawonga Health continue to work with VIC and NSW Public Health Units and our regional health partners to ensure we have capacity to continue to be responsive to our community.

The Department of Health has also updated the testing and isolation requirements for close contacts and COVID-19 positive cases. Information on these requirements is available via the Coronairus Website. https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/checklist

We advise the Yarrawonga community that Yarrawonga Health is currently experiencing increased demand for testing and Urgent Care while Yarrawonga Health teams are also impacted by COVID-19 exposure and cases. As such, our health care teams and health care services in Yarrawonga are stretched and are in some situations working more than normal. We wish to encourage the community to access care and services as needed, but with kindness and consideration for our team members who are working hard to keep the Yarrawonga community safe.

GETTING TESTED:

Anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19 or is considered a close contact of a positive person must test themselves via Rapid Antigen Test or a PCR Test. Symptoms may include; fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of sense of smell, loss of taste or headache.

All positive Rapid Antigen Tests must be reported to the Victorian Department of Health, this can be done via the Coronavirus website or the Service Victoria App. Reporting your positive rapid antigen test result, helps The Victorian Department of Health understand how many cases of COVID-19 there are in Victoria and provides vulnerable people access to the COVID-19 home monitoring service.

Do not delay getting a test for COVID-19. The Yarrawonga Health Drive through COVID-19 testing clinic opening times are available on the YH website. Access via the Yarrawonga Fire Brigade Training ground, Woods Rd, Yarrawonga.

CEO Elaine Mallows said “May I remind the community the best way to protect yourselves and your family is to get vaccinated and wear a mask indoors in public spaces and that only a test can tell, If you have COVID-19 symptoms, isolate at home and please get tested.”

COVID-19 boosters are now available. A COVID-19 third dose is strongly recommended, as it helps prevent waning immunity against COVID-19.

Vaccination is available via ringing 03 5871 0950 or via your local trusted GP’s or pharmacies. Visit the Coroanvirus website for further information regarding boosters and eligibility. https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/third-dose
